This artwork was inspired by two of the beautiful outdoor treats that Autumn brings around here: The full moon that's closest to the equinox, known as the Harvest Moon, and the changing colors of the leaves. The ancient ginkgo trees drop beautiful fan-shaped yellow leaves with lines and curves that I find so appealing. I carved and hand-printed this edition using the reduction printmaking method, which I have explained more below. There are minute differences in the prints and a soft painterly feel to the edges.

The reduction technique in printmaking refers to using the same block for every color layer of the print. Planning this type of print is a puzzle-solving challenge. First there is the process of deconstructing your vision for the final image into multiple layers of shapes and colors that you think will get you there. Then as you go along, you may have to adapt your plan to fit unexpected results. Each new layer is created by carving away more of the block so you can't go back and change anything you have done up to that point.
